Carved bone souvenirs

Ancient traditions of Yamal bone carving craft are carefully preserved and developed by the Regional House of Crafts located in the town of Salekhard. Bone processing is commonly handled by hereditary hunters, reindeer herders and fishermen. They use the bones and horns of modern-day animals and even tusks of mammoths as well as wood and other materials. Not only the ancient technique of bone processing makes the souvenirs unique, but also unusual designer’s ideas.
