Traditional carpets
Salesman:
Republic of Dagestan
Making woven carpets is one of the oldest folk crafts for Dagestan. Local masters traditionally create both pile and pileless carpets made of wool and natural dyes. Meanwhile sumakhi-rugs look particularly original. They are made smooth, and also decorated with a rich but clear pattern. On the other hand, an outstanding highlight, the pile carpets are famous for, includes special manual double knot knitting on a carpet weaving machine. There can be from 1,400 up to more than 2,100 knots per one square decimetre of carpet canvas.
