To the future, preserving a great legacy. Smolensk region
The exposition of the Smolensk region demonstrates the most
important events and features of the region. The theme of the first cosmonaut
Yuri Gagarin and his flight into space is reflected in the spherical shapes of
the expositions’ art objects — porthole mirrors. Perennial flax "Sky
Blue" used in the exposition tells us a story of a very significant for
the Smolensk region agricultural crop — fiber flax.
The Smolensk region offers an idea of contemplating the
nature as a source of inspiration and searching for new meanings: nature in the
city, a garden city with forest motifs, rethinking history and culture.
The main decorative element is mirrored steles, which
symbolize that the region has a rich heritage of many eras and cultures. The
reflection of the nature in them is a desire for environmental friendliness,
careful treatment and preservation of natural heritage. The steles also reflect
the viewer, thus conveying that the main thing is the person, their
aspirations, actions, and desires. And everyone has an impact on the formation
of the future.
Fiber flax, chosen as a symbol of the region at the
exhibition, is a valuable agricultural crop widely used in the textile, food
and chemical industries. The first flax mill in the modern history of Russia
was built in the region, and the world’s only museum-reserve "Smolensk Flax" is
also located here.
