Free Don. Rostov region
The Rostov region is a hospitable and colorful region. It is a former Cossack free land,
the land of ancient Greeks and Khazars, a historical crossroads between
peoples, cultures, traditions of the West and the East.
Three types
of natural landscapes are widespread in Rostov region: steppe, dry-steppe and
semi-desert. The plant world of the region is represented by weeping willow,
imitation grain fields, sunflower and various steppe grasses.
The central
part of the composition is the art object "Don-batyushka"
("Father Don"). On the banks of the Don River there are flower
compositions that represent living nature, steppes - on one bank and
agriculture - on the other bank. The reverse side of the stand is a
mini-composition: in the foreground, the river bank is decorated in the style
of a "dry stream" of small dark stone (water). There are reeds on the
bank and sunflowers next to it. In another corner there is a weeping willow
with branches up to the "water".
The composition also represents the floral symbol of the region - sage (Salvia from Latin salve - "hello" or "be well"). In the Rostov region, steppe sage is the most common. It prefers to grow on dry meadows, forest edges, roadsides and fields. In height, the stem of the plant together with flowers reaches 60 cm. Sage has medicinal properties and is used as a spice for cooking.
