200,000 square metres and 20,000 visitors: the scale of the new building of the National Centre RUSSIA
The future building of the National Centre RUSSIA is comparable to the world’s largest cultural venues. Its total area will exceed 200,000 square metres, with exposition spaces alone occupying around 50,000 square metres, while the entire site will cover more than 14 hectares. However, its core idea goes beyond scale. It is a project designed to inspire people to dream, create and come together.
The new complex of the National Centre RUSSIA will be built on Krasnopresnenskaya Embankment. Inside, there will be a transformable congress and concert hall, media and press centres, as well as public and educational spaces. The venue will be able to accommodate around 20,000 visitors at the same time. Construction is scheduled for completion by the end of 2029.
In terms of its parameters, the project will stand alongside such venues as Expo City Dubai and the National Centre for Technology and Innovation in Beijing, while remaining unique in its functionality. The National Centre RUSSIA will serve as a permanent exposition of the country’s achievements, a venue for business events, and an open public space. A landscaped park of around 4 hectares and a public area with a 7,000-seat amphitheatre will be created around the building.
The concept has been developed by the ATRIUM architectural bureau in collaboration with the National Centre RUSSIA. The shape of the roof is based on the image of a protective veil covering the country with care. This symbol evokes a snow blanket over fields, a maternal shawl, and the tradition of spiritual protection. The architects aimed to convey lightness, dynamism and openness — creating not a heavy monument, but a space that draws people in and invites them to stay. The façade and roof will become a multimedia surface, with lighting and graphics changing depending on the season and ongoing events.
The National Centre RUSSIA was established by order of the President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin, to showcase the country’s achievements and foster a sense of pride. The new complex will become an architectural landmark of global significance, a key point on Moscow’s map and a place where modern Russia can be experienced in action — both in the surrounding space and through the events held within.
The II Open Dialogue "The Future of the World. A New Platform for Global Growth" will be held at the National Centre RUSSIA in Moscow on 27–29 April.
