Expert from the UAE Selina Neri: human prosperity is the foundation of the future labour market
In today’s world, a new stage in the development of human capital in the labour market is emerging — the network of professions, roles, tasks, skills and relationships within and around organisations is changing. Dr. Selina Neri, Co-Founder and Rector of the Future Readiness Academy and Visiting Professor at the Skolkovo School of Management, delivered a lecture entitled "Prosperity in the New Labour Market Environment" at the National Centre RUSSIA. The event was held as part of the January Expert Dialogues.
"Talking about the ‘future of work’ is like looking in the rear-view mirror — an attempt to predict how artificial intelligence will change professions. People need more than just employment or being in demand — they need to thrive," Selina Neri said.
According to the expert, there are "three forces" that help explain changes in the world of work — technology, longevity and the search for meaning in life: "For a long time, technology was the only force, but others have now been added. Longevity means that we will be able to live healthy lives for longer and continue working over a much longer period — beyond the age of 70. The third force that is constantly reshaping the world of work is the search for meaning and purpose in life. ‘Who am I?’ and ‘Why am I?’ are questions that preoccupy young people all over the world."
In today’s realities, approaches to workforce development are changing. The previous paradigm differs fundamentally from the new one. One of the main tasks is to elevate the labour market to a higher level and increase professional potential so that work becomes less routine. The expert is confident that this will help address burnout and lack of employee engagement, while opening up many opportunities for horizontal growth and career progression.
"We are beginning to build future readiness in the countries of the Global Majority through changes in mindset, behaviour and learning. There is economic power, demographic factors and a mindset that helps us prepare. Once we pass through this phase, in two or three years we will start looking at systemic changes with an already formed mindset and readiness. We are responsible not only for what we do, but also for what we fail to do," Selina Neri said, adding that humanity must adapt to new technologies and change.
The issue of prosperity in the new labour market environment is linked to the development of human capital in a new technological era — one of the five megatrends that will shape the global economy in the coming decades. These megatrends were presented by the Deputy Chief of Staff of the Presidential Executive Office of the Russian Federation, Maxim Oreshkin, during the January Expert Dialogues. The event was initiated by the National Centre RUSSIA in partnership with the Centre for Cross-Industry Expertise "Third Rome", with the support of the Presidential Executive Office of the Russian Federation.
