The main element of the New Year decoration of the region's fir tree are embroidery and ornaments, which are presented in the form of real products of the region's craftsmen, on dolls in traditional outfits, on mittens, and also on stylized garlands.Tambov embroidery became famous far beyond the province in the XIX century - it is very different from the Russian folk embroidery, formed in Orel, Kaluga, Ryazan and other provinces.

One of the oldest techniques of Tambov embroidery is double-sided smooth sewing with colored silk threads and stitch "painting on the cloth", which was used to decorate women's clothing, towels, tablecloths.

The image of the famous Tambov wolf is also present on the New Year tree. It is unknown where this idiom came from. This kind of wolf does not exist in nature. The expression "Tambov wolf is your comrade" is one of the most common phraseological units in our speech.

The idiom has so firmly entered the consciousness of Russians that in the city of Tambov a monument to the Tambov wolf was erected, which immediately became a landmark of the city.
