Our regions can produce anything: the development of regional brands discussed at the RUSSIA EXPO
Rospatent
has registered about 860 thousand brands recognized as trademarks and service
marks. In 2023, Russian applicants filed 123 thousand new applications - an
increase of 35% over the year. Consumers are increasingly interested in local
brands - for 64% of citizens it is important that the goods were produced on
their territory.
Such
figures were voiced by experts during the discussion "Regional Brands -
Tools to Increase Investment and Tourist Attractiveness of the Region".
Chairman of the Federation Council Committee of the Federal Assembly of the
Russian Federation on Science, Education and Culture Lilia Gumerova, Deputy
Minister of Economic Development of the Russian Federation Maxim Kolesnikov,
Head of Rospatent Yuri Zubov, member of the Federation Council Committee on
Constitutional Legislation and State Construction Alexander Bashkin, Head of
ANO "Russian Quality System" (Roskachestvo) Maxim Protasov and others
took part in the discussion of the subject.
"The
President of our country Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin said that regional brands
are indeed our asset and they are dynamically growing. Also, according to the
head of state, their support should be of a consistent nature, both from
government structures and regional and legislative authorities. This could
diversify the goods on the market and make regional products more attractive to
consumers," said Yuri Zubov, head of the Federal Service for Intellectual
Property.
He also
recalled that in 2020 the Government approved a roadmap for the transformation
of the business climate in the field of intellectual property.
"A
total of 335 regional brands are currently registered in the country, and I can
say that the goods are really trademarks of the regions and an indicator of
product quality," Yuri Zubov added.
The high
importance of regional brands was noted by Lilia Gumerova:
"A
regional brand helps to create a unique image of the region in the eyes of
tourists, which can lead to an increase in their flow and the development of
the necessary infrastructure. It also contributes to the preservation and
development of the cultural and natural heritage of the region".
Maxim
Kolesnikov in his speech cited statistical data and also elaborated on what
measures should be implemented to support brands at the regional level:
"From
the economic point of view, brands ensure recognizability and stable demand for
goods and services. Rospatent has already registered about 860 thousand brands
recognized as trademarks and service marks. It is encouraging to see the
positive dynamics: by the end of 2023, 123 thousand new applications were filed
by Russian applicants under the national procedure - an increase of more than
35% year-on-year".
Maxim Protasov drew special attention of those present to the fact that the quality of goods and services is directly reflected in the development of the entire institution of regional brands, and also spoke about the support system for the best producers.
"More and more brands inform the consumer about their place of origin, gaining both the loyalty of consumers of the home region and creating an additional attraction for buyers of other subjects and countries. Interest in local brands is also growing among consumers - for 64% of citizens it is important that goods are produced in their traditional territory, and more than 54% give priority to goods under regional brands. Now Roskachestvo together with Kavkaz.RF conducts certification for the "Products of the Caucasus" mark, supports the "Made in Moscow", "Made in Tula" and other projects. And in the course of our work, we clearly see that the creation, registration and effective application of geographical indications (GU) and denominations of origin of goods (NMPT) can give an additional impetus to the development of the region's economy, as well as increase the recognizability and competitiveness of products manufactured there, both inside and outside the country," said Maxim Protasov.
The first event to be held at the Russia National Centre, which is being established by the order of President Vladimir Putin, will be the International Science Fiction Symposium and Exhibition "Inventing the Future". The symposium will take place from November 4 to 6.
Tomorrow, the International RUSSIA EXPO will conclude its work. From November 2023 to July 2024, it was visited by more than 18 million guests.
Every day, for eight months, the RUSSIA EXPO delighted guests and gave unforgettable emotions.
