Congratulating the dearest: Mother’s Day at the National Centre RUSSIA
A mother is the most important person in everyone’s life;
her love, care and selflessness have inspired creators — artists and writers —
for centuries. On Mother’s Day, 30 November, the National Centre RUSSIA will
host the literary club "What to Read?!" dedicated to the image of the
mother in Russian literature and contemporary culture.
At Alexei Chesnakov’s Literary Club, the participants will
discuss how the image of the mother has changed from the classics to the
present day, which heroines have become symbols of motherhood, and how
literature reflects the real lives of Russian women.
On this day, the guests of the club are not just renowned
experts, but the main heroines of the celebration. Marina Kim, journalist and
First Deputy Chair of the State Duma Committee on Information Policy,
Information Technologies and Communications, is also a mother of three — she
has a son and two daughters. Doctor of Philology and Senior Researcher at the
Institute of World Literature of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Anastasia
Gacheva, also balances her career and motherhood; Anastasia has an adult
daughter.
Today in Russia more than 9 million children are raised in
large families, and the national projects "Family",
"Personnel", "Long and Active Life" and "New Health
Preservation Technologies" aim to strengthen the institution of the family
and to support the younger generation.
Mother’s Day was established in Russia in 1998 and has since
become an important part of the national calendar, reminding society of the
significance of motherhood. The celebration not only highlights respect for
mothers but is also connected to national priorities. As Deputy Prime Minister
of the Russian Federation, Tatyana Golikova, noted at the presentation of the
project "Platform of the Future: 100 Projects of Russia. The Human Being" at the National Centre RUSSIA, the issues of preserving the
population, supporting large families, increasing birth rates and extending
life expectancy remain key for the country.
Mother’s Day is celebrated in many countries, although the
dates may differ. For example, in the United States and a number of European
countries it falls in May, while in the United Kingdom it is celebrated in
March. Yet everywhere this day carries a special meaning: gratitude and
recognition of the role of mothers in everyone’s life.
In Russia, Mother’s Day is not only an occasion to
congratulate one’s own mother, but also a reminder of the importance of
supporting families, motherhood and childhood at the national level. It is a
holiday that unites generations and inspires good deeds.
The All-Russian Children’s Award "New Philosophy of Upbringing" is an annual event in the field of education.
