The Republic of Karelia presented its tourism potential and unique handicrafts
Interesting
travel destinations, workshops, folk crafts and much more were presented by the
Republic of Karelia at the RUSSIA EXPO on the Day of the Region.
A
theatrical presentation of an interactive map of the Republic - one of the
novelties of the region, which will help guests in finding new places to visit
and routes - was prepared for the guests.
"Tourism
is one of the main drivers of the Republic's economic development. In recent
years, the tourist flow to Karelia has almost doubled. In 2023 we expect growth
to 1 million 700 thousand tourists. Tax revenues from tourist and hotel
organizations have also increased by 2.6 times. Along with the growth of tourist
flow, the need for accommodation facilities has also increased. This year we
have increased the total number of rooms in the region by almost two thousand
beds, in particular due to the national project "Tourism and Hospitality
Industry", which is implemented on the initiative of Russian President
Vladimir Putin", - said the Head of the region Artur Parfenchikov.
The
exposition presented one of the most popular types of folk crafts among
Russians - unique products of Karelian craftsmen. These include works of gold
embroidery.
"We
have an embroidered map of Russia, and Karelia is represented on it by this
very pattern - and, in my opinion, it is one of the most beautiful. One can
only bow one's head before the labor and tenacity of those people who have
preserved this skill, carried it through the years, and today continue to work
on it", - Natalia Virtuozova emphasized.
The annual Ruskeala Symphony music festival, which is among the top 15 regional events in the country, was presented to the visitors. In the pavilion Sport for Everyone Olympic champion Vladislav Larin, a native of Karelia, held an open taekwando training session. And actors Elena Drapeko and Alexander Mikhailov recalled the days they spent in Karelia on the set of the films "The Dawns Here Are Quiet" and "Love and Doves".
