The creative legacy of Arkaim: workshops rich in history and meaning held at the National Centre RUSSIA
Days of the Chelyabinsk region continue at the "Region-2030. Platform of the Future" exposition at the National Centre RUSSIA. Visitors are discovering the region’s history, traditions, achievements and distinctive culture — including through unique creative workshops. On 9 October, guests took part in hands-on sessions on painting wooden slabs and creating brooches decorated with Ural gemstones. The workshops were led by Alexandra Kaptel, a promoter of traditional arts and crafts of the region.
"Today, we explored the heritage of ancient Arkaim, which existed on the territory of today’s Chelyabinsk region more than four thousand years ago. It was a highly developed civilisation where metalworking, pottery, weaving, and gemstone processing flourished. That is why today we painted wooden slabs and created jewellery — just as the people of Arkaim decorated their homes and made various accessories using Ural gemstones, for which our region is famous," said Alexandra Kaptel.
According to the craftswoman, the creative workshop not only highlighted the authenticity of the ancient craft but also revealed each participant’s individuality.
"Every stone carries a certain meaning. Some people wish to preserve their health, others to enhance joy and happiness. So, each participant designed and decorated their brooch in their own way," she explained.
Throughout the day, the beauty of the traditional crafts of the Chelyabinsk region was complemented by young women wearing costumes from the "Ural the Artisan" collection, created by the artisans of the Theatre of Russian Costume at the South Ural State Humanitarian Pedagogical University.
In the coming days, visitors to the Chelyabinsk region’s stand will enjoy new workshops accompanied by fascinating stories about the region’s traditions. The thematic week also includes performances by the male vocal quartet Onegin from the Chelyabinsk Opera and Ballet Theatre, interactive "atomic" games, prize giveaways, and a gastronomic show featuring tastings of authentic South Ural dishes.
The Days of the Regions are held as part of the "Region-2030. Platform of the Future" exposition at the National Centre RUSSIA from September to October. Guests have already explored the Republic of Dagestan, the Voronezh, Tula and Amur regions, and the Jewish Autonomous Region. The cultural and educational programme of the Chelyabinsk region runs from 7 to 12 October, and the Nenets Autonomous Area will conclude the series of regional presentations from 14 to 19 October.
