"Tiger Studies Lesson": the world of Primorye's wild nature was shown to children
The National Centre RUSSIA branch in the Primorye region hosted an educational event titled "Tiger Studies Lesson: Striped Master of the Taiga". The lesson, organized by Vladivostok Library No. 20 and the Land of the Leopard National Park, was held for children with special needs.
The main purpose of the event was to introduce the young guests to the unique inhabitants of Primorye, including the most famous of them — the Amur tiger. An inclusive atmosphere became a special feature of the event: sign language interpreters worked for the comfort of all children.
The lesson began with a presentation of up-to-date literature about the tiger, including a book featuring augmented reality. That book was published as part of the Governor's book publishing programme based on the legacy of V. K. Arseniev's "Meetings in the Taiga". Pointing the smartphone's photocamera at the book pages allows one to literally bring them to life and see the inhabitants of the Primorye taiga in motion. At the beginning of the book, one can watch a video greeting from Oleg Kozhemyako, Governor of the Primorye region.
According to the head of the library, Yelena Yanson, the books presented at the lesson are in great demand among the library users: "Today we are lucky that these books were not borrowed. They are usually always checked out by readers."
The lesson continued with a lecture by Nina Lada, a leading specialist of the Department of Environmental Education at the Nature Reserve "Kedrovaya Pad" and the Land of the Leopard National Park. She shared with the children a lot of interesting facts about tigers, Far Eastern leopards, spotted deer, and camera traps.
Then young participants went on a tour of the branch of the National Centre RUSSIA in Primorye. There, in the interactive space named "Unique Fauna", they managed to "meet" the animals they had heard about at the lecture, and get acquainted with other expositions.
Everyone can take guided tours at the National Centre free of charge. To do this, log in to the website of the National Centre RUSSIA in the Primorye region and select a convenient date and time. Guided tours are held daily, except Mondays, from 10:00 to 20:00. Groups are formed by up to 15 people, the programme lasts 90 minutes.
