29 July marks International Tiger Day, celebrated around the world. At the National Centre RUSSIA in Primorye, the tiger is far more than a recognisable image — it is the defining symbol of the Centre. It features on the logo of the National Centre branch and is seamlessly woven into the exposition.

"We spent a long time searching for the right symbol and eventually chose the tiger. This predator embodies everything that defines the Russian Far East: intelligence, strength, agility and foresight. Moreover, for the ancient Jurchen people, the tiger was regarded as a sacred animal. This creates a symbolic connection: the tiger is an inseparable part of the Primorye Territory, its eternal guardian and protector," said Vitaly Stanislavchuk, Head of the National Centre RUSSIA in Primorye, explaining the choice.

Visitors begin their encounter with the master of the taiga from the very first steps of the exposition. The "Facets of Primorye" zone prominently features the imprint of a tiger's paw. This powerful symbol rightfully holds a special place among the emblems of the region, alongside the sea, mists, picturesque sunsets and iconic bridges.

Visitors can also encounter the famous tiger at the nature reserves and national parks display, which showcases the rich flora and fauna of Primorye and the protected landscapes where they thrive in their natural state. By selecting 'Zov Tigra" ("The Tiger's Call") National Park, guests can watch authentic footage from the reserve on a large screen, featuring the majestic predator itself. The park is one of the key habitats of the Amur tiger and makes an important contribution to the global effort to conserve this rare species. Visitors can also learn about the Ussuri Nature Reserve, which serves as a research centre for the study of the Amur tiger and other rare animals. The Primorye Region is also home to the country's largest regional Red Data Book, which includes around 250 animal species.

The journey continues with a virtual walk through the Ussuri taiga. This immersive exposition transports visitors into the heart of Primorye's forests, where the inhabitants of these protected landscapes appear among the intertwining branches — including, of course, the master of the taiga, the tiger.

Every year, at the end of September, Primorye celebrates Tiger Day, a regional environmental festival. The programme includes a large tiger-themed parade, a city concert and a variety of educational events designed to raise awareness of the need to protect this rare predator.
