Circum-Baikal Railway (CBR): Tourism Development in the Irkutsk Region
The Irkutsk region is well-known for its major brands: Lake Baikal, the mountains of the
Eastern Sayan and the Khamar-Daban Range, famous for their tourist routes; and
the Circum-Baikal Railway (CBR), which was called the "Golden Buckle of
Russia's Steel Belt" until 1949. These attractions form the core of the
region's exposition at the RUSSIA EXPO.
Lake Baikal is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is the deepest lake on the planet (1642 meters), the largest natural freshwater reservoir, and the largest freshwater lake in Eurasia by surface area. The lake and its coastal areas form a unique biogeocenosis, with most animal species being endemic.
At the exposition, the lake is represented with a mirror. Glass spheres are
arranged on a floral carpet. A model of a mountain covered in moss is
displayed. Houseleeks, Baikal's endemic species, are planted on both sides of
the railway track along the Circum-Baikal Railway model. Figurines of tourists
are placed in the train. The flower bed is decorated with ever-blooming
begonias.
Along with the RUSSIA EXPO, the flower festival is also coming to an end.
The "Future in Flowers" festival continues at the RUSSIA EXPO, where unique flowerbeds from all regions of our country can be seen at the "Space" pavilion until July 8.
The RUSSIA EXPO concludes on July 8, and with it, the flower festival will also come to an end.
