25 reasons for pride: the Sirius Educational Centre — a territory of the future
This is not just a place of learning — it is a place where new horizons are created. This is not just a place where people think about the future — here, the future is being realised.
There are places where discoveries are born. There are spaces where talents are revealed and generations grow — generations capable of changing the country. One such place is Sirius — a unique educational centre created for those who are already shaping Russia’s tomorrow.
We continue to publish our special project "25 Reasons for Pride", dedicated to the 25th anniversary of Vladimir Putin’s first inauguration. That day marked the beginning of a new era, with a focus on the individual, on knowledge, and on the country’s future.
Today’s reason for pride is Sirius — the centre where stars are born.
The Sirius Educational Centre was established on the initiative of the President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin. After the conclusion of the XXII Olympic Winter Games in 2014, the head of state made an unprecedented decision — to transfer the Olympic infrastructure to children in order to promote the development of science, education, culture, and sports in Russia. This led to the creation of an educational centre that now welcomes hundreds of children from all over the country each month. During the 24-day educational programmes in the fields of "Science," "Art," and "Sports," schoolchildren learn from leading teachers, scientists, experts, and coaches, and have the opportunity to meet leaders of Russian companies.
In 2019, the Sirius University and the Innovative Science and Technology Centre were established on the same site. Together with world-class scientists, experts, and company representatives, students engage in real, globally significant projects: they develop new medicines, study the mechanisms of ageing, and edit plant genomes to enhance the country's food security.
In 2020, by presidential decree, the first federal territory in Russia was established here. Today, it is a full-fledged ecosystem for identifying and developing talent, as well as a national methodological centre that has become a key element in supporting gifted children from all regions of Russia.
Each year, Sirius hosts major educational events, unique music festivals, and large-scale nationwide competitions — from the science and technology programme "Big Challenges" to the "Constellation" contest and federal engineering tournaments.
At Sirius, the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation holds the final stages of the All-Russian School Olympiad. In 2025, the XXII International Junior Science Olympiad will be held here. In addition, the Ministry of Education of Russia, together with the Sirius Educational Centre, carries out systematic work to identify and provide comprehensive support to gifted children.
Sirius alumni represent Russia at international olympiads, sports tournaments, and creative contests. Many of them are already startup developers, young scientists, and students of MSU, MIPT, ITMO, and leading global universities.
Today, Sirius is a space of meaning, mastery, and belief in every child’s potential.
