"Children were able to touch a fairy tale": Bolshoi Theatre principal dancer Igor Tsvirko on the production "Morozko"
The creators of the multi-genre production "Morozko" succeeded in delivering a truly multi-genre performance in which modern technologies and media imagery are brought together in a harmonious way. This was stated by the author of the concept, Bolshoi Theatre ballet principal Igor Tsvirko. He noted that traditional stage aesthetics are organically combined with digital solutions and contemporary storytelling.
"We really managed to bring together new technologies and modern media characters while remaining faithful to classical ballet and the operatic genre. For children, it is important not only to watch, but also to feel closer to what is happening — to approach the stage, interact with the characters and experience the moment. This form of participation creates that very sense of immersion that delights both children and adults," Igor Tsvirko said.
According to him, "Morozko" remains true to the principles of stage aesthetics: beautiful performers, carefully thought-out settings and an exquisite visual language help hold the audience’s attention alongside a compelling story. This once again confirms the enduring appeal of classical Russian ballet, despite its complexity and even a certain degree of elitism, he added.
The multi-genre production "Morozko", created as a contemporary interpretation of the Russian folk tale of the same name, became one of the key New Year projects of the National Centre RUSSIA. More than 12,000 people saw the production live, while the online version was watched by over 3.5 million viewers. The main New Year premiere took place on 27 December, with the final performance held on 14 January, securing "Morozko" its status as one of the most prominent family projects of the season.
As part of the first celebration of Artist’s Day at the National Centre RUSSIA, state awards were presented to cultural figures.
