The National Centre RUSSIA congratulates on International Women’s Day
Spring in Russia begins with a holiday filled with a special
sense of light, beauty and harmony. On 8 March, International Women’s Day, we
warmly congratulate mothers, wives, friends and daughters, thanking them for
the comfort, care, wisdom and inspiration they bring, and for the important
role they play in the family, society and the state.
The history of the holiday dates back to the early twentieth
century. In 1910, at the International Conference of Socialist Women in
Copenhagen, the German activist Clara Zetkin proposed establishing
International Women’s Day. The initiative was supported by 17 countries. The
holiday was first celebrated in 1911 in several European states and in 1913 in
Russia. After the 1917 Revolution, 8 March became established in the Soviet
calendar as a day honouring working women, and in 1965 the holiday was
officially recognised as a non-working day.
In 1975, the United Nations officially established 8 March
as International Women’s Day, emphasising its global significance. Today the
holiday continues to unite different generations and countries, remaining a
symbol of boundless respect for women — guardians of the family hearth,
continuers of generations, a reliable support and a source of inspiration for
men at all times.
In Russia, the traditions of International Women’s Day are
associated with spring flowers and warm congratulations. On this day it is
customary to give mimosa, roses and tulips, to offer compliments to women,
visit mothers and grandmothers, friends and loved ones, and organise festive
concerts and warm family dinners.
At the National Centre RUSSIA, the celebration of 8 March
will continue for several days. Visitors will be welcomed with a festive
atmosphere, flowers and congratulations. On 6 March, a special workshop
dedicated to women’s health was held in the Gastronomic Rows. On 7 and 8 March,
the multi-genre performance "Russian Seasons. Spring" — on the main stage of the National Centre RUSSIA. Admission to all
events is free with prior registration on the website russia.ru.
The National Centre RUSSIA congratulates all women on this
spring holiday. May every day bring you warmth and energy, the care of your
loved ones and inspiration for new achievements. Thank you for your wisdom,
patience and love, which make this world brighter, kinder and more beautiful.
A guide to the main premiere of this spring has been prepared especially for the performance "Russian Seasons. Spring", which will take place at the National Centre RUSSIA on 7 and 8 March.
