Education is meant to provide a person with knowledge, skills, competencies, and a profession. But without shaping a worldview, all this remains only half the task. This was stated by Valery Fadeyev, Aide to the President of the Russian Federation and Chairman of the Presidential Council for Civil Society and Human Rights, during the Meeting "Key Vectors and Tasks for the 2025–2026 Academic Year", which is being held for the first time at the National Centre RUSSIA.

"We are used to saying that education should provide a person with skills, competencies, and a profession. And the more skills a specialist has, the more valuable they are to society. But in my view, there is also something important — a worldview. Education without shaping a worldview will always remain incomplete — both school and university education. A worldview is an integral picture of the world, a system of values, an understanding of one’s role in society, in the country, in the world. This is what we have been discussing in recent years. On this basis, new courses on philosophy and economics are being created, and educational work is being developed," said Valery Fadeyev.

In his speech, the Aide to the President of Russia emphasised that an educated person "must think broadly". Only such people, according to Fadeyev, can propose and create the future, the future socio-cultural system. He also referred to science, art, music, and religion.

"Even if a person is not a believer, they must understand the significance of religion as an institution that has shaped values for thousands of years," Valery Fadeyev continued. "This too is part of upbringing, part of shaping a worldview."

The Aide to the President of Russia noted that the 21st century will be the century of the humanities, just as the 19th century was the century of engineering sciences. Therefore, he said, engineers must gain knowledge of the humanities, and humanities scholars in turn must acquire knowledge of the natural sciences and how nature works.

Valery Fadeyev also stressed that the history of Russia is unique, and its path is unlike any other: "We have vast territories, complex borders, great achievements. Some may dislike the historical path of our country, but it must be accepted and understood. Russia is part of European culture, but at the same time we have our own identity, our own special strength."

The Working Meeting "Key Vectors and Tasks for the 2025–2026 Academic Year" with vice-rectors and staff responsible for youth policy and educational activities at universities ahead of the new academic year is being held by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of Russia for the second time. The National Centre RUSSIA is hosting the meeting for the first time.
