Application deadline for the Young Journalists School extended until 18 February
Youngsters
dreaming of a media career are welcome at the Young Journalists School at the
National Centre RUSSIA. The application deadline for studies has been extended
until 18 February. Students of 12 to 17 years of age will have the chance to
try their hand at the professions of journalist, blogger, or media specialist,
and undergo selection for internships at the country's leading media projects. In-person classes will begin on 1 March, on Children's Television and Radio Day, at the "Space of Opportunities" venue of the Movement of the First.
The Young
Journalists School was created to help young people take their first steps in
the profession, and shape a new generation of media specialists. The programme
consists of five modules and includes in-depth study of the Russian language,
as well as the basics of journalism and media law. Students will have classes
on professional ethics and developing analytical thinking, as well as practical
training in creating multimedia content. Furthermore, young journalists will be
able to meet and engage with experts from leading federal media outlets and
media holdings. During practical sessions, they will cover major events at the National Centre RUSSIA, visit the editorial offices of major news agencies, outlets, and TV channels, and develop their own media projects in teams.
Selection
for the School takes place in several stages. To apply, it is necessary to fill
out the form on the website russia.ru and complete creative
assignments in a format close to the modern media environment by 18 February.
After applications are submitted, the lists of candidates admitted to the
in-person selection stage will be confirmed on 22 February. Interviews and
in-person essay writing will take place from 23 to 27 February, and the final
list of participants who have successfully passed the selection will be
published on 28 February. Based on the competition results, groups of
participants will be formed to undergo in-person training from 1 March to 30
June.
Graduates
of the Young Journalists School will receive a certificate of programme
completion, their first portfolio featuring their publications on media
resources, and social media promotion. The main bonus of the training will be a
recommendation from the National Centre RUSSIA for university admission and the
opportunity for an internship at major media projects, including the press
office of the National Centre RUSSIA. The Young Journalists School project is
organised by the National Centre RUSSIA and the Movement of the First with the
support of the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation. The programme
partners of the project are the Autonomous Non-Profit Organisation
"Dialogue" and the New Media Workshop. The strategic partner of the
project is the Russian Centre for Children and Youth.
The Vologda Region Days were held at the National Centre RUSSIA from 3 to 8 February.
Russian Science Day, held on 8 February at the National Centre RUSSIA, brought together over 2,000 scientists, experts, and students from across the country.
