Serbian director Emir Kusturica visited the National Centre RUSSIA in Yugra
Serbian director Emir Kusturica, president of the International Festival of Film Debuts "Spirit of Fire", visited the National Centre RUSSIA in Khanty-Mansiysk during the 24th edition of the festival. The tour for the guest was led by the Governor of Yugra, Ruslan Kukharuk.
The head of the region introduced the director to the exposition "See Yugra — Fall in Love with Russia!". Emir Kusturica learned about Yugra’s unique natural environment, the traditions of the indigenous peoples of the North, and the region’s key achievements in the economy and innovation. The guest highly praised the Centre’s multimedia content and the atmosphere that conveys the distinctive character of Yugra.
"Spirit of Fire" is a leading festival of debut cinema, which Emir Kusturica has headed since 2023. This year the festival is held for the 24th time, having received 630 submissions from 39 countries. The thematic focus of this year’s programme is "Children in Cinema". The festival is organised with the support of the Government of Yugra, the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation, and the company Gazprom Neft.
The National Centre RUSSIA in the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Area — Yugra opened on 16 December and was timed to coincide with the 95th anniversary of the region.
The space was created by order of the President of Russia, Vladimir Putin, and became one of the first centres to open in the regions. Its key exposition, "See Yugra — Fall in Love with Russia!", brings together the region’s historical heritage, culture, and modern achievements, fostering a sense of pride in Yugra and in Russia as a whole among visitors.
