Kokoshniks by Russian designers have become one of the most sought-after accessories at the Department Store of the National Centre RUSSIA in the Primorye region. Customers buy them not only to complement festive outfits but also to incorporate them into everyday looks.

The Department Store offers both classic kokoshniks and modern versions resembling headbands — minimalist, lightweight, and focused on form and texture. The items are produced by Gorlitsa ART from the Tver region and Russkaya Korona (Russian Crown) from the Kaliningrad region.

"We’ve noticed that kokoshniks are especially popular among young women. Many even leave our Department Store wearing them. It’s no longer a souvenir — it’s a fashion statement and a symbol of respect for Russian culture," said the Department Store Administrator, Yelena Ovsyannikova.

The trend for revival of national motifs has also been recognised at the highest level. The President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin, during a meeting of the Valdai International Discussion Club in Sochi, said he was pleased to see the tradition of wearing kokoshniks coming back to life.

According to the Creative Director of the Department Store of the National Centre RUSSIA, Marius Matas, the kokoshnik — a traditional Russian headdress — is truly experiencing a renaissance in the 21st century. It is once again becoming not merely an element of folk costume but a bold and stylish accessory in the wardrobe of a modern woman. In the Moscow Department Store RUSSIA, kokoshniks rank third among the most popular items.

"The kokoshnik headband is not only a symbol of Russian culture but also a unique item in a woman’s wardrobe, capable of completely transforming any look. Thanks to contemporary design interpretations, this accessory has confidently entered the world of fashion. You can see it on runways, in photoshoots, at festivals, weddings and celebrations," said Marius Matas.

Advice from the Creative Director of the Department Store RUSSIA:

• Choose one that suits your face shape. Tall kokoshniks look best on oval faces, while smaller ones suit round or square faces.

• Secure fit is key. A kokoshnik headband should sit firmly, especially if you plan to wear it for a long time.

The Department Store RUSSIA is open daily from 10:00 to 20:00 at the National Centre RUSSIA in Primorye. Residents and visitors can take part in guided tours of the Centre and purchase goods from Primorye-based and other Russian manufacturers at the Department Store.
