The Arkhangelsk region has been and remains the northern outpost of Russia for centuries. The Russian science and the Navy originate from here, the Russian North is a stronghold of spirituality and a guardian of traditions.
The region's priority industries are shipbuilding, including construction of nuclear submarines, deep processing of wood and diamond mining.
The Northern Sea Route runs along the Arctic shores of Russia, which connects the main Arctic ports into a unified transportation waterway. One of the key roles
in solving the task set by President Vladimir Putin to increase cargo traffic along the Northern Sea Route is assigned to the port of Arkhangelsk, with its infrastructure being constantly improved today. The First State Test Cosmodrome Plesetsk is located here – the northernmost one in the world.
The Arkhangelsk oblast region is also famous for its unique cultural and natural heritage. The Kenozersky National Park, Solvychegodsk city, which became the center of the interregional cultural and tourist project "Silver Necklace of Russia", the old merchant town of Kargopol, the world’s most beautiful villages of Kimzha and Verkola, the Golubino karst caves attract thousands of tourists to the region.
