Heroes of beloved Russian fairy tales, striking costumes, and the most delicate watercolours await visitors at the Department Store of the National Centre RUSSIA. This has become possible thanks to the unique project "Fairytale Legacy" by the renowned artist Liza Anisimova.

Liza Anisimova creates her works at the intersection of painting, theatre, fashion and decorative art. In her works, hand-painted textiles and original techniques, watercolours and scenography seem to merge as if by magic. This is how unique costume art objects and pictorial works come into being.

An inexhaustible source of inspiration for the artist is the country’s rich national culture, with its legends and folklore and traditional crafts. Liza reinterprets images from Russian fairytales and cultural heritage, transforming them into a contemporary artistic language rooted in tradition, imagery and profound visual poetry. Art critics have highly praised Liza Anisimova’s talent and creative approach. Her works have been displayed at the State Hermitage Museum, the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts, the State Academic Capella of St Petersburg, the Artists’ Union, and the Kaliningrad Museum of Fine Arts. Many of her works have been acquired by private collectors and museum collections.

The original art project by Liza Anisimova, "Fairytale Legacy", features 84 watercolours and more than 50 costumes created by hand using fabric painting, decorative materials, embroidery and unique artistic textures.

The exposition presents vivid characters from the Russian literary tradition, including the Swan Princess, Baba Yaga, the Sage from "The Tale of the Golden Cockerel", Prince Yelisey, the image of the Princess from "The Tale of the Dead Princess and the Seven Knights", as well as the Noble Lady from "The Tale of the Fisherman and the Fish". Each image is an independent art object that reveals deep layers of Russia’s cultural code.

The exposition "Fairytale Legacy" at the National Centre RUSSIA highlights the importance of preserving the country’s cultural legacy. Fairy tales become a universal language understood by people of all ages. Magical stories familiar from childhood help forge a connection between generations and preserve the memory of ancestors. The project "Fairytale Legacy" will become part of a broader cultural dialogue on promoting national culture through art. Liza’s works will leave no one indifferent and will resonate with a wide audience, including children and young people.

The exposition "Fairytale Legacy" at the National Centre RUSSIA is timed to coincide with the opening of the exposition "Book of Fairy Tales" on 13 December. Visitors can look forward to encounters with living fairytale characters, magical adventures and real wonders. The exposition can be visited until 1 March 2026, free of charge, with prior registration via the "Events" section on our website.
