Goldwork embroidery

As far back as in the Middle Ages church wear in Ancient Rus was decorated with goldwork embroidery. Over the years garments of noble people first, as well as clothing of wealthy merchants and peasants later on have become embroidered with gold thread. In the XVIII century this art craft came around to the territory of the present Nizhny Novgorod region, and it started developing particularly rapidly in the town of Gorodets. Nowadays the traditions are being continued by the "Gorodets Goldwork Embroidery" company. They are producing real masterpieces decorated with a fine well-designed ornament.
