Exposition titled "Heroes of the Fatherland" opens at the National Centre RUSSIA in Ugra
The exposition "Heroes of the Fatherland" has begun in the temporary exposition hall of the National Centre RUSSIA in the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Area. The project is dedicated to Ugra residents, whose destinies are connected with key military events in the country's history — from the Great Patriotic War to modern armed conflicts.
The exposition is arranged as a single historical space in which different epochs and human destinies are intertwined. Through documents, photographs and authentic objects, the contribution of the region’s residents to the defence of the Motherland is shown — at the front, in the rear, in humanitarian missions and volunteer activities. Special attention is paid to the continuity of generations and the preservation of the living memory of the heroic deeds.
Representatives of the veteran community and humanitarian organisations took part in the creation of the exposition. They handed over personal items and artifacts that not only illustrate the events, but also convey the human dimension of the war. Among such items is the bonnet of a Gazelle car that was damaged during a humanitarian mission. In the spring of 2024, the car came under fire, burned down, but the volunteers survived. This fragment has become one of the most emotional symbols of the display — a reminder of the fragility of life and the value of life of every saved person.
"We deliberately designed this exposition not as a set of dates and events, but as a living slice of history. Through specific destinies, through authentic objects, we are talking about how historical memory is formed and why this memory is does not exist without the personal participation of each generation," said Ivan Yashkov, head of the "Heroes of the Fatherland" exposition working group, director of the Khanty-Mansiysk Museum of Nature and Man.
The display addresses not only the past, but also the present, showing that heroism is not an abstract concept, but the choice of specific people. The fates of participants in military operations are presented not only through combat episodes, but also through their lives before service — the path of formation, values, and personal motivation.
"This exposition demonstrates the continuity of generations and the patriotism that is passed down from generation to generation. It shows how the hero's worldview and spirit are formed, so that both children and adults understand that a heroic deed is not something happening by chance. For me, participating in the creation of this exposition is not a contribution, but a duty. It is our duty to preserve the memory of those with whom we walked shoulder to shoulder," emphasised Pavel Rusin, Lieutenant Colonel, recipient of the Order of Courage, participant in the "Time of Heroes" programme.
The "Heroes of the Fatherland" exposition becomes a space where understanding of both history and personal responsibility for its preservation are obtained. It shows that memory is not limited by archives and dates, it is a living link between generations, on which the future of the country depends.
