AI without borders: experts discussed the role of artificial intelligence in the transformation of society
Where does the boundary between technological progress and social constraints lie? What way the role of the state is changing when artificial intelligence becomes the infrastructure of the economy? These and other questions were on the agenda of the panel discussion "AI Without Borders: Unification as a Driver of Success in Inventing the Future" at the II International Symposium "Inventing the Future". The panel discussion took place within the framework of the track "Technologies" of the Symposium's expert programme, its co-organizers were the AI Alliance, the BRICS+AI, and the National AI Foundation.
Kristina Muravyeva, moderator of the discussion, general producer of the international media network TV BRICS, stressed that artificial intelligence is becoming the basis of the infrastructure of the future world.
"Over the next few decades, we will witness that entire markets will arise and disappear, as well as entire professions. And artificial intelligence will form not just tools, but the framework of tomorrow's society, in which both man and machine will exchange roles, while predicting, creating, and making new decisions," noted Kristina Muravyeva.
Tatyana Benois, President of the National Artificial Intelligence Foundation, founder of the BRICS+ AI, recalled that Russian President Vladimir Putin supported the initiative of the Russian Direct Investment Fund to create an Artificial Intelligence Alliance of the BRICS countries a year earlier. Such international cooperation will allow countries to strengthen their development in the field of AI.
"The exchange of experience at the international level will make it possible to create, for example, network universities in the field of artificial intelligence, and will enable developing countries to use the capacities of other countries to train their national models. This will allow us to communicate in the same language and form a code of ethics for artificial intelligence," Tatyana Benois said.
Anna Abramova, Director of MGIMO AI Centre subordinate to the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stressed that it is necessary to expand the areas of interaction and create a roadmap for the development of AI in order for it to become a growth point for the BRICS countries. Alexander Pavlov, chief managing partner for the development of artificial intelligence at VEB.RF added that when training AI, partner countries need to pool resources and databases, jointly search for data sources, and at the same time not lose their national identity.
"Now everyone is developing with the help of an artificial intelligence product. And if someone else's identity is there, it's easy to get lost and sink into obscurity. Therefore, it is necessary to pool our resources, computing power, and negotiate the preservation of identity and regulation of this area," said Alexander Pavlov.
According to Christina Amor Maclang from the Republic of the Philippines, co-founder, Secretary General of the International Digital Economies Association (IDEA), head of Digital Pilipinas, emerging markets in Southeast Asia, Africa, and South America, which make up 85% of the world's population, need to work with leaders in the field of digital transformation, such as Russia. This will eliminate technological inequality. She considers the banking sector, healthcare, education and agriculture to be the most promising areas for the development of AI technologies.
"For Russia, this is the best opportunity to apply its artificial intelligence technologies in an experimental mode and make them more adapted to the needs of the global majority," Christina Amor Maclang is convinced.
At the end of the discussion, the speakers outlined several key trends for the near future. According to their forecasts, the use of AI in the fields of healthcare, culture and art, and agriculture, will increase; the mass introduction of multi-agents into work processes will begin; and a global dataset for artificial intelligence training will be formed, taking into account regional specifics.
