Alexei Yerkhov: Russia and Uzbekistan prepare new projects for the 35th anniversary of diplomatic relations
Preparations for reciprocal days of culture between Russia and Uzbekistan will offer an opportunity to revisit the two countries' shared history and identify prospects for further cooperation. The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to Uzbekistan, Alexei Yerkhov, shared this view following a working meeting between the National Centre RUSSIA and the Islamic Civilisation Centre in Uzbekistan. Held on 17 October in Tashkent, the meeting focused on the programme for the reciprocal Days and the development of a long-term partnership.
"In 2027, our countries, the Russian Federation and the Republic of Uzbekistan, will mark the 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations. Of course, their history is much longer and more interesting than this anniversary alone suggests, but it is nevertheless very important. It gives us an opportunity to examine the past, present and future of our relations — to understand what projects and prospects lie ahead for our partnership," Alexei Yerkhov emphasised.
He added that the parties are now jointly developing a programme of events for the anniversary. He said that talks between the National Centre RUSSIA and the Islamic Civilisation Centre in Uzbekistan had produced interesting plans and ideas that would now need to be put into practice.
During the working meeting "Russia–Uzbekistan: A Dialogue of Cultures. Towards Reciprocal Days of Culture", the Director General of the National Centre RUSSIA, Natalia Virtuozova, and the Director of the Islamic Civilisation Centre in Uzbekistan, Firdavs Abdukhalikov, announced reciprocal Days of Russia and Uzbekistan to mark the 35th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the countries. The meeting also concluded with the signing of a supplementary agreement to the Memorandum of Cooperation between the National Centre RUSSIA and the Islamic Civilisation Centre, which has been in effect since April 2026. The document sets out the main areas of the long-term partnership and provides for the joint development of a roadmap for projects and events for 2027–2030.
