"Architecture on Display": the National Centre RUSSIA launches a lecture series on landmark exposition spaces around the world
Architecture for expositions has always provided scope for
bold experimentation, but today this field is experiencing a genuine boom. The
first lecture in the "Symbols of the Times: World Expositions" series
will be held at 18:00 on 9 September at the National Centre RUSSIA. The opening
session, entitled "Architecture on Display: How Exposition Spaces Are
Built Today", will explore how the architecture of exposition spaces is
becoming an attraction in its own right and a new urban landmark, drawing as
much attention as the expositions themselves.
The guest speaker will be architectural critic, PR Director at the SPEECH
architectural bureau and creator of the "Archiblog" YouTube and
Telegram channels, Anna Martovitskaya. Together with the moderator,
architectural historian, Head of the educational company "Through the Eyes
of an Engineer" and Chair of the Interregional Union of Tour Guides, Airat
Bagautdinov, she will discuss some of the most striking examples of
contemporary exposition architecture, from Shanghai to Osaka. They will compare
the masterplans of recent world expositions and explore which ideas emerge
specifically within exposition spaces and which of them could shape the
large-scale architecture of tomorrow.
Participants will also
discover which notable exposition spaces have recently opened or are currently
being designed in Russia and how closely they reflect global trends.
The "Symbols of the Times" series is a major educational project by
the National Centre RUSSIA exploring how world expositions became cultural and
architectural events, shaped trends and left their mark on history. Admission
to the lecture is free, but advance registration is required and is already
open on the russia.ru website. Join the discussion and discover how today's
boldest architectural experiments are shaping the urban landscape of the
future.
On 12–13 November, the National Centre RUSSIA will once again become the main meeting place for those thinking about what tomorrow will look like.
Registration has opened for the III International Symposium "Inventing the Future", which will be held on 12–13 November 2026 at the National Centre RUSSIA.
As part of the Open Lecture Hall "Inventing the Future: Ecotourism", the geographical readings "Mosaic of the Peoples of the Far East" were also held.
