Large families are the future of Russia: a French family with many children shared the secrets of harmony

A couple from France raising many children were among the honoured guests of the II All-Russian Wedding Festival, which took place at the National Centre RUSSIA from July 8 to 10. Fabrice and Isabelle Sorlin have been living in Russia since 2015, having moved from the city of Bordeaux. The couple have been married for 19 years and are raising ten children.

Fabrice Sorlin is Vice President of the International Movement of Russophiles. He emphasises that in Russia, large families are respected and valued. 

"The most important thing in a large family is the love that fills it. Of course, there are difficulties, but they are accompanied by a special grace. There is nothing more beautiful than family gatherings with children running around. That’s why I urge people not to be afraid and not to hesitate to have large families, not to be afraid of having children. This is how we contribute to the future of the country — Russia needs this. All the difficulties will be more than repaid by their love," said Fabrice Sorlin. 

The Vice President of the International Movement of Russophiles notes that traditional values are upheld in Russia, which is important for his own family. 

"When we moved to Moscow, we were amazed that people could stop us in the street to congratulate us or say kind words about the fact that we have so many children. We constantly felt support. And every day we continue to feel it — both from ordinary people and from the government and administration. In Europe, the family is under threat today. Unfortunately, we see this contrast," said Fabrice Sorlin.

Isabelle Sorlin named mutual understanding between spouses as the key to family happiness. 

"It’s important to find time for one another. We have children who need a great deal of time and attention, but still, every two months, my husband and I try to spend time together, go out somewhere, have time just for the two of us — and this helps strengthen our family," she explained. 

Fabrice also believes that communication is the secret of a strong marriage — it is important to talk to each other, to share thoughts and feelings, and to find time for joint leisure. 

"We have a wonderful tradition — to have dinner as a family: mum, dad and the children. It allows us to discuss how the day went, what’s bothering us, whether there are any problems at school or other concerns. Unfortunately, this is something people often forget today, because we live in a fast-paced world where everything happens so quickly. But it’s essential to make time for the family and to communicate with loved ones," shared Fabrice Sorlin. 

By decree of President Vladimir Putin, Fabrice, his wife and nine of their children received citizenship of the Russian Federation. 

As part of the II All-Russian Wedding Festival held over three days at the National Centre RUSSIA, more than 200 couples took part in official wedding ceremonies, and a series of celebratory events also took place.
