The Far East: a land of great opportunities and technological growth
The development of Russia’s Far Eastern regions is one of the key priorities of the 21st century. The School Students Forum continues at the National Centre RUSSIA as part of the "Far Eastern Regions Days in Moscow". The participants of the third day included senior pupils from the Yaroslavl and Kaluga regions. The Forum offers a unique opportunity for school students from central Russia to learn about the educational programmes of leading universities in the Far East. One of the main tools for attracting young people to the region is state support.
"As the President of Russia, Vladimir Putin, said, the development of the Far Eastern regions is a priority of the 21st century," noted Yulia Shuvalova, speaker of the School Students Forum and Head of the Project Office for the Promotion of the Far East and the Arctic of the National Priorities autonomous non-profit organisation.
According to her, the Far Eastern Federal District is a land of great opportunities and technological progress.
"Today, over 3,000 resident companies are launching their businesses and investing in the development of the Far East. They need skilled professionals. The universities of the Far East are ready to train and supply well-qualified specialists for the labour market. Last year, during the university admission campaign, we introduced applicants to the educational opportunities of the Far Eastern universities, and about 3,300 students from other regions of Russia enrolled there. This year, the number increased by another 1,100. They choose Far Eastern universities primarily because of their unique degree programmes not available elsewhere – volcanology, ocean studies, rocket engineering, shipbuilding, and other innovative fields that are developed in response to the needs of industries in the Far East," added Yulia Shuvalova.
The School Students Forum features a rich business programme designed specially for young people. Its key feature is the dynamic and engaging presentation of information. Representatives of Far Eastern universities showcase their study programmes and admission conditions, while current students greet the participants via "video messages", telling them about their alma maters. The programme concludes with an entertaining quiz to consolidate the knowledge gained during the sessions.
"The Forum is really cool," shared Kristina Volkova, a student of School No. 39 in Yaroslavl. "The speakers were very interesting, they talked about the universities and we were able to ask questions we cared about. Of course, the quiz was the most memorable part – it was a fun competition between schools, but the presentations themselves were very engaging."
Mikhail Ignatov, a student of Serpeysk Secondary School in the Kaluga region, said that the event was truly memorable: "The Forum was very informative. I learned a lot of new things about the Far East, and especially enjoyed the part about Yakutia. The Far East is all about natural beauty and traditions."
After the business programme, the students took part in a guided tour of the interactive exposition about the Far East, which is open for free visits at the National Centre RUSSIA. It presents the region’s opportunities for travel, education, work and life, all developed with state support. The exposition includes several interactive zones and art installations combined into an engaging route.
The exposition "Far Eastern Regions Days in Moscow" is open to visitors at the National Centre RUSSIA from 1 to 30 November 2025, daily except Monday.
The project "Far Eastern Regions Days in Moscow" is implemented with the support of the Office of the Presidential Plenipotentiary Envoy to the Far Eastern Federal District, the Ministry for the Development of the Russian Far East and the Arctic, the Far East and Arctic Development Corporation, and the non-profit organisation "Social Initiatives Development Fund".
