Day of Altai region at the RUSSIA EXPO: roads, industry, agriculture and tourism
The Altai region is located in the southern part of Western Siberia, the region has an advanced agro-industrial complex and plays one of the leading roles in ensuring food security of Russia due to the largest arable land area in the country, the use of scientific approaches and technological re-equipment of agricultural enterprises and food industry.
On November 19 at the International RUSSIA EXPO, Viktor Tomenko, Governor of the Altai region, presented the region and spoke about the implementation of national projects in road construction, industrial development, agriculture and tourism.
"Altai is a place where boundless fields, foothills and Altai mountains, thousands of fresh, salty and alkaline lakes, unique ribbon forests create a distinctive world that is revealed to everyone who has visited here. Natural riches require constant care and attention. To preserve them for future generations, we do a lot of work. For example, three years ago by the decision of the President of our country we created the Salair National Nature Park, where relict plants have survived more than one historical epoch", — said the Governor Victor Tomenko.
The Altai region participates in all national projects initiated by the President of Russia. For six years, almost 100 billion rubles have been allocated for their implementation. These projects include improvement of infrastructure, creation of new jobs, improvement, targeted support for residents.
Expansion of the Chuya Highway is one of the main infrastructure projects of Russia supported by the President of the country. The highway is of great importance for the development of tourism and foreign trade relations with Asian countries. The Altai region road network — about 55 thousand kilometers — is the longest in Russia. Thanks to the national project "Safe and Quality Roads", almost 2 thousand kilometers of highways have been upgraded in the region over 6 years.
To fulfill the President’s instructions to ensure food security of Russia, the region has initiated agrarian megaprojects that allow to increase the production of meat and dairy products many times over. In the livestock sector alone, 15 major investment projects worth 32 billion rubles are being implemented. Cherkizovo Group is expanding the capacity of its poultry cluster. Large livestock complexes were launched in 2023 by Rumelko Agro and EkoNiva Altai.
National projects help to make medical care more accessible. On the instructions of the President, the quality of medical care in rural areas is being improved. Mobile feldsher-midwife stations and vehicles for mobile teams are being purchased for remote villages. Existing hospitals and polyclinics are being renovated and equipped with modern equipment, including for high-tech medical treatment. The primary health care sector is being modernized. With the support of the federal government, a surgical complex is being built at the Altai Center for Motherhood and Childhood to provide neurosurgical treatment.
Within the framework of import substitution and strengthening Russia’s technological sovereignty, the region’s enterprises are increasing supplies of products that have no domestic analogues, including tires, engines, agricultural machinery, coke for steel production, railway cars and other types of products.
To preserve biodiversity, including the protection of rare relict plants, several specially protected natural areas have been established in the region. Three years ago, the Salair Nature Park was established by order of the President of Russia.
A new balneological resort called Belokurikha Mountain Resort is being built from scratch in the Altai region not far from Belokurikha, the only federal resort town in the Urals, while a serpentine road, one of the most beautiful highways in the country, has been constructed to provide access to it.
The region is also a popular travel destination, with traffic flows to different regions of Russia and Asian countries passing through its territory.
