Air Fleet Day: Sukhoi Superjet 100 and MS-21 at the "Journey Across Russia" exposition
Air Fleet Day of Russia is celebrated every third Sunday of August. This year the holiday fell on 17 August. The day is dedicated to aviation workers: engineers, controllers, flight attendants, and all those who ensure the safety and development of air transport.
Air Fleet Day was first held on 18 August 1933 at the M.V. Frunze Central Airfield in Moscow. On that day, samples of Soviet aviation equipment were demonstrated along with the skills of aviators.
Today, on Air Fleet Day, aviation shows are held all over the country — in different cities and regions. Military aircraft and helicopters perform aerobatic manoeuvres, while parachutists demonstrate their skills in the sky. Guests of the events can not only watch but also immerse themselves in the world of aviation: step onto the airfield, sit at the controls of a training aircraft, take memorable photos with crews and aircraft. Aviation museums and aeroclubs open their doors for excursions, conduct workshops and mini-festivals.
At the "Journey Across Russia" exposition in the National Centre RUSSIA, visitors can learn about the country’s modern civil aircraft. Video screens display the Sukhoi Superjet 100 and MC-21. The maximum speed of the Superjet is 981 km/h, with a flight altitude of 12,200 m and a passenger capacity of 103. The MC-21 reaches speeds of up to 870 km/h, the same flight altitude of 12,200 m, and accommodates up to 211 passengers. It is equipped with the fifth-generation PD-14 turbofan engine, which meets modern environmental standards.
According to the Order of the Government of the Russian Federation dated 25.06.2022 "On the approval of the comprehensive programme for the development of the air transport industry of the Russian Federation until 2030", the fleets of Russian airlines will be replenished with domestic aircraft. Among them are the Sukhoi Superjet New, MC-21-310, Il-114-300, and Tu-214.
Admission to the exposition "Journey Across Russia" is free as part of guided tours, which are organised through prior registration on the russia.ru website in the "Events" section.
The exposition spaces will be closed to visitors for two days — 18 and 19 August.
At the National Centre RUSSIA, on the platform "Space of Opportunities", a meeting was held between the participants of the All-Russian Family Festival "Wings of Childhood" of the programme "Eaglets of Russia" ("Orlyata Rossii").
