The documentary project "DK USSR. Excursion" was presented at the RUSSIA EXPO
04.14.2024
Guests of the "Our Culture" pavilion were shown the first episode of the documentary project, and before the screening, ROSIZO Director General Olga Galaktionova held a public talk about the cultural history of the Soviet period with the curators of the exposition.
"In 2023, an important and large exposition project "DK USSR" was carried out in the Manege Central Exhibition Hall. It was simply impossible to imagine that this costly - both in terms of means, strength, and meaning - history could be dismantled and thrown away. And it was very important for me that a 13-part movie version of the exposition was created for the first time as a sequel to the blockbuster exposition, thanks to which the project can now be developed in the Internet space. We were supported in this by the Internet Development Institute (IRI) and the PREMIER online platform. This shows that culture is confidently entering the Internet field and, consequently, is becoming interesting to a wider audience. Now is an interdisciplinary time, you can't stop at one thing," Olga Galaktionova emphasized during the speech.
Speaking about the project, Evgenia Petrova, the chief expert on scientific and publishing activities of the State Russian Museum, noted: "The exposition "DK USSR" represented a cross-section of the USSR culture through a very understandable, at least to the older generation, form - the reconstruction of the Palace of Culture structure. The film and the exposition catalog are absolutely different forms of "perpetuating" any project. They have different tasks and goals. In this case, it is good that we managed to do both. Some people prefer to read, others prefer to watch. Working with ROSIZO was quite easy and pleasant. In my opinion, this is one of the most successful joint projects of many years".
Russian film historian and film producer Natalia Mokritskaya emphasized: "When we were preparing the exhibition for the centenary of the creation of the Soviet Union and planned to tell about the culture of that era, it became clear that it was impossible to fit everything in, that it was a huge immense subject. Thanks to the movie block, which included films from all 15 Soviet republics, we managed to showcase the diversity of the USSR culture.
Anna Trapkova, Director General of the Museum of Moscow, noted: "Within the framework of the exposition "DK USSR" we told about the Higher Art and Technical Workshops (VKhUTEMAS), which brought up a new type of artist - an artist immersed in production art, i.e. bringing art and life closer together. In fact, we are talking about the founding school of Russian design, on whose experience the whole world relies. It is great that within the framework of the documentary project "The USSR Design Center. Excursions" we were able to continue the research of the origins of Russian design".
Alina Koren, the curator of the exposition "DK USSR", said during the discussion: "At the past exposition we tried to analyze through objects and expert opinions and give viewers a vision of the USSR culture at the present moment. The second form was the exposition catalog, thanks to which you can see up close what was unattainable at the exposition itself. Finally, the documentary project "DK USSR. Excursion" speaks about Soviet culture in the cinematic language. Depending on the form of presentation of the material the accents change - they are expanded and supplemented".
ROSIZO art historians Dina Ivashchenko and Andrei Raikin also took part in the discussion.
It should be reminded that in 2023 the Manege Central Exhibition successfully held a large exposition "DK USSR", organized by the State Museum and Exhibition Center "ROSIZO". The series "DK USSR. Excursion", based on the exposition, fulfills an important cultural and educational mission, introducing the main directions of art of the Soviet Union, such as architecture, painting, sculpture, graphics, cinema, theater, music and photography. Each series is organized as a tour of the exposition hall, with the curators of the exposition sections acting as its protagonists.
