Exclusive from the National Centre RUSSIA: speech expert Seda Kasparova calls for learning the sensory language
The
interactive workshop "Speech Accents," part of the author’s project
"Masterpieces. The Best of Russia" by the National Centre RUSSIA, was
conducted by speech expert, dubbing actress, and creator of the large-scale
online project "Voice Can," Seda Kasparova. Especially for the guests
of the National Centre RUSSIA, she highlighted the key elements that help make
communication with an audience effortless — both on stage and in everyday life.
"The
first and most important thing is the ability to manage your internal state.
Without a doubt, if you can handle nervousness and set yourself in the right
mood, that’s already half the battle. The next point is understanding your
audience: who are they, how informed and engaged are they with my topic, and
how motivated are they to engage further? This is extremely important. And the
third focus of our attention is the voice itself — the ability to influence
through speech and language, the use of rhetorical techniques," said Seda
Kasparova.
She also
emphasised the importance of mastering literary Russian, which allows speakers
to express their thoughts, ideas, and messages with the greatest clarity and
effectiveness — whether addressing a large audience or speaking with friends
and family.
"One
can 'visit' the greats, study their work, and understand, for example, that the
very repetition used by Martin Luther King in his famous speech brilliantly
‘engages’ the audience. Metaphors, epithets, and other techniques not only help
to convey content 'in morse code,' but also create a specific image in the
minds of listeners — this is the sensory language that helps the audience truly
feel what you’re saying," added the expert.
