New Year tree of the Chuvash Republic: monisto ringing and a lot of beads
The region’s New Year tree is decorated with real chest ornaments made by Chuvash craftswomen.
Chuvash ornaments have magical, symbolic, functional and aesthetic meaning. They reflect the worldview, historical path, technological and cultural achievements of the people, emphasize the status of a person.
Everyone is probably familiar with the word "monisto" — a necklace of coins. But in Chuvashia they began to make these women’s jewelry of absolutely unbelievable sizes. Until recently they wore so much silver coin jewelry in Chuvashia that the ringing was heard all around.
Therefore, on our fir tree there are women’s and girls' breast ornaments made of coins and beads. Also, on the tree there are ornaments and symbols of the Chuvash people.
On the Main Alley of VDNH visitors are greeted by New Year fir trees, each of them representing a region of the country.
