New Year tree of the Murmansk region: a Saami amulet and northern lights
The New Year tree of the region is decorated in blue-red colors of the regional coat of arms, with a golden northern lights shining in its azure head - it symbolizes the location of the Murmansk region beyond the Arctic Circle.
There is a Saami amulet Tehp' on the fir tree - it is a triangular pendant, which symbolizes a duck's foot. It can be sewn on top fur clothing, hats, shoes, cradles, reindeer harness.
The amulet is universal and is believed to protect from everything.
Murmansk residents love their region so much that they suggested to place on the tree the slogan popular in the region: "The North is for living!".
On the Main Alley of VDNH visitors are greeted by New Year fir trees, each representing a region of the country. The RUSSIA EXPO is open from Tuesday through Sunday, Monday is a technical day. The best time to visit is in the mornings and weekdays, but the exposition is open to everyone on weekends as well. All expositions and events are free of charge.
