Christmas tree of the Republic of Bashkiria: history in the ornament and gold of the Sarmatians
The New
Year decoration of the region's tree reflects the rich diversity of Bashkir
ornamental art and the history of this region. The decoration utilizes real
household items, such as towels with national patterns.
Symmetrical
patterns can be found on almost all Bashkir household items. Most often symbols
of vegetation, images of animals, sun and geometric figures are used in Bashkir
ornaments.
Each
ornament has its own name: kuskar, kurai, nagysh - Bashkirs use hundreds of
kinds of patterns. Ornament is so important for the Bashkir culture that it is
reflected even on the coat of arms of the republic.
In addition
to ornaments, the New Year tree is decorated with stylized golden reindeer of
the Sarmatians, replicating museum exhibits. Wooden deer with branching horns,
upholstered with gold leaf, were found on the territory of Bashkiria in 1988.
The age of the items is almost 2.5 thousand years.
And, of
course, the Christmas tree had a place for real barrels of the famous Bashkir
honey.
On the Main Alley of VDNH visitors are greeted by New Year fir trees, each of them representing a region of the country.
