Yelena Yampolskaya: the National Centre RUSSIA catalogue will help regions introduce the new Russian style

The Council under the National Centre RUSSIA for the Development and Promotion of a New Russian Style in Public Spaces is working to create a nationally oriented environment — a space where traditional Russian imagery becomes contemporary and enters everyday life. This systematic work is based on a scientific and methodological framework and a glossary of solutions accumulated over many years. Yelena Yampolskaya, Presidential Adviser and Chair of the Council, spoke about this at a meeting of the Council's board on 23 September.

"We want traditional Russian imagery to become more contemporary and to be integrated into the everyday environment. This is part of a major effort that I call creating a nationally oriented environment. Put simply, it means living in your own home in keeping with your family's traditions. The Council works on the basis of a very serious scientific and methodological framework involving the heads of leading specialised universities and creative unions, and we have a glossary of all our decisions accumulated over the years. On this basis, it is genuinely possible to create high-quality things that will also help develop good taste among young people," said Yelena Yampolskaya.

According to her, a special place in the Council's work will be given to the National Centre RUSSIA catalogue — a future collection of ready-made artistic and functional solutions that regions will be able to use.

"There should be many such good solutions. As many proven artistic solutions as possible — practical and functional — should be included in the National Centre RUSSIA catalogue. And regions should be able to use all of them, whether it is an art installation based on Cyrillic lettering or a children's playground. At the same time, our task is not to dictate ready-made solutions, but to show how beautiful it can be when these images, close to both the mind and the heart, are introduced into the surrounding environment. So that our children grow up among them, play, go to school, wait for transport at a bus stop, and so on," she concluded.

The latest meeting of the board of the Council under the National Centre RUSSIA for the Development and Promotion of a New Russian Style in Public Spaces was held at the National Centre RUSSIA on 23 September. Participants discussed interim results in shaping visual culture through educational projects and public spaces, as well as new approaches to designing the environment.
