Jewish Autonomous Region builds bridges with China – Maria Kostyuk
On 30 September, the National Centre RUSSIA hosted the signing of an agreement on the construction of a new cross-border bridge from the Jewish Autonomous Region to China across the Amur River. The bridge will be over one kilometre long and will be located near the village of Pashkovo, next to the Chinese city of Jiayin. In an interview with the Press Office of the National Centre RUSSIA, the Governor of the Jewish Autonomous Region, Maria Kostyuk, stated that the construction of the bridge would give a boost to the economy of the Far Eastern region. She also noted that the Jewish Autonomous Region continues close cooperation with China in several other areas.
"Today we are focusing on the development of humanitarian missions in education, tourism, culture, and sport. With Heilongjiang Province we exchange delegations, hold joint events, organise business missions, and implement investment projects. This summer alone, two new Chinese enterprises were registered in our region. More will follow soon," said Maria Kostyuk.
One of the latest projects is an agreement to cultivate Dandong strawberries in the Jewish Autonomous Region. This variety is renowned for its size (up to 50 grams) and sweetness. The regional authorities are ready to provide a land plot of up to 60 hectares and assist in developing the project’s infrastructure. There are also plans to significantly increase tourist flows from China to the Jewish Autonomous Region.
"We are working very actively together during the Harbin Fair and EXPO. We also invite our colleagues, exchange goods, show the basics of production — what and how we produce, what works and what does not. All this demonstrates close partnership. We always say that the Amur River does not divide us but, on the contrary, unites us," noted Maria Kostyuk.
The meeting with Governor Maria Kostyuk at the National Centre RUSSIA marked the opening of the Jewish Autonomous Region Days, which are taking place from 30 September to 4 October. The full interview with the Governor of the Jewish Autonomous Region, Maria Kostyuk, will soon be available on the website of the National Centre RUSSIA. Stay tuned for updates.
