On 1 October, the 5th All-Russian Homeroom Teachers’ Forum — one of the largest events in the field of education and upbringing in the country — opened at the National Centre RUSSIA. The event united more than a thousand school teachers and class advisers of secondary vocational education (SVE) groups from 89 regions of the Russian Federation, as well as educators from Abkhazia, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Mongolia, Belarus, South Ossetia, Tajikistan, Armenia, and Uzbekistan. To participate, teachers had to pass a competitive selection. In total, more than 48,000 applications were submitted. The main goal of the event is to discuss the problems of teachers and help them find answers to the most difficult and pressing questions posed by children and their parents.

"The Homeroom Teachers’ Forum has become a true family, a real example of devotion and professionalism. People who chose the sacred profession of teacher and educator as their calling show an example of true service not only to children — their pupils, not only to their parents, but to everyone around them. Thank you very much for this," said Sergei Kiriyenko, First Deputy Chief of Staff of the Presidential Executive Office of Russia.

He emphasised that homeroom teachers not only educate children but also shape the future of Russia: "The beliefs and dreams of your pupils will determine not only their fate and happiness but also the success and future of our country."

On behalf of the President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin, Sergei Kiriyenko presented state awards to homeroom teachers and SVE class advisers: Medals of the Order of Merit for the Fatherland, II degree, the honorary title of "Honoured Teacher of the Russian Federation" and honorary certificates.

This year, important decisions are expected in several areas at once. The forum’s programme includes events aimed at helping teachers develop their professional community. Discussions will focus on patriotic and moral upbringing, historical education, the teacher’s role and contribution to the scientific and technological sovereignty of the country, as well as communication and cooperation with the parent community.

"This is the fifth year the forum has been held, and it can now be confidently called a success. For the first time, we are joined by colleagues from Abkhazia, South Ossetia, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan — in total from nine countries. I am certain that at the sixth forum we will expand participation even further and invite as many colleagues as possible. I want to stress: this is not just a meeting for discussion. Important decisions are made here and then put into practice. For example, it was at the forum that the decision was made to establish the All-Russian Parents’ Committee," said Sergei Kravtsov, Minister of Education of the Russian Federation.

To make the discussions easier to follow and more engaging, many sessions will take place in the format of popular TV shows. On 1 October, homeroom teachers will join the talk show "From the Bottom of My Heart" with Andrei Malakhov. On 2 October, educators will appear on the entertainment programme "Morning Post" with Nikolai Baskov, discuss the most pressing issues in education on "Solovyov Live", and take part in the well-loved quiz show "One Hundred to One" to talk about the prestige of labour professions. A "Direct Line" with Minister of Education Sergei Kravtsov is also scheduled.

The 5th All-Russian Homeroom Teachers’ Forum is taking place at the National Centre RUSSIA from 1 to 3 October in an open format. Livestreams of the events are available on our website.
