The city of ghosts and the lantern festival: enigmatic Chinese animation at the National Centre RUSSIA
Until February 2, visitors to the gallery of the National
Centre RUSSIA can explore animated works by Chinese animators. The "Legacy
for the Future" exposition offers an exciting introduction to Chinese
culture, its legends, tales, and traditions. With a variety of genres and
styles, there is a story for every viewer to enjoy.
The "Legacy for the Future" exposition features
more than 250 works by artists from Russia, China, India, Brazil, Ethiopia, and
Iran. Alongside paintings, photographs, sculptures, and art objects, visitors
can also experience animated projects. In just an hour, it’s possible to watch
over ten short animated films. These range from brief sketches to full-fledged
stories with captivating plots and dramatic conflicts, such as "The Return
Home" and "The Fire of the Soul."
Among all the animated films, "New Tales of the
Supernatural" stands out as the most mystical and even eerie. The creators
feature traditional ghostly figures from Chinese mythology as the protagonists,
placing them in modern urban settings to create a striking contrast. This
approach invites viewers to see the familiar world around them in a completely
new light.
Several animated works also explore Chinese traditions. For
instance, "China: The Lantern Festival" is crafted in the style of
ink painting and centers on the traditional Lantern Festival. Visual metaphors
blend with Chinese calligraphy, offering a true sense of Eastern aesthetics —
elegant, enigmatic, and detached.
Meanwhile, the animation "Far, Far Away" takes
viewers on a journey through China, showcasing the country’s stunning natural
and architectural landmarks. Audiences can admire the renowned West Lake in
Hangzhou, the legendary gardens of Suzhou, the awe-inspiring terraced fields of
Guizhou Province, the royal palace in Beijing, and many other fascinating
destinations.
The integration of special military operation veterans into peaceful life and the interaction between regions and municipalities were discussed as part of the Forum "SMALL HOMELAND – THE STRENGTH OF RUSSIA".
The second All-Russian Municipal Forum "Small Homeland – the Strength of Russia" is taking place at the National Centre RUSSIA.
