Russian Highways State Company (RHS, Avtodor) stand at the RUSSIA EXPO (the Russian Ministry of Transport exposition "Russia on the Move", Pavilion No. 15) hosted the presentation of the first and only virtual simulator of a multifunctional service zone (MFZ) in Russia, an innovative road service format developed by Avtodor and its subsidiary Avtodor-Development.

The basis for the simulator was the already functioning MFZ on the 173rd km of the M-12 "Vostok" highway in the Vladimir region. Similar zones, created according to the same principles, are being implemented on the M-11 "Neva", A-113 of the Central Ring Road, M-4 "Don" (on the sections of the Rostov-on-Don bypass and the Far Western Bypass of Krasnodar).

The virtual simulator will allow everyone to drive through the vast territory of the innovative format MFZ and see its rich infrastructure: separate traffic routes for cars and trucks, designated infrastructure for passenger buses, designated areas for refueling trucks, cars and buses, a safe pedestrian core with children's and sports grounds, a single service building and much more.

Those who wish to test the simulator will have the opportunity to feel themselves as a visitor of the MFZ behind the wheel of various types of cars and trucks, as well as a passenger bus. In addition to the type of vehicle, you can choose different weather conditions and time of day. The simulator also provides an opportunity to visit the MFZ by means of a virtual walking tour, which gives an opportunity to evaluate the infrastructure of the multifunctional zone in more detail.

The simulator was created in the Laboratory of Immersive Technologies of Avtodor-Engineering LLC, which also provides a unique opportunity to try oneself as a driver and drive not only on the existing highways of RHS, but also on projected future roads. And all this with the closest to reality driving sensations thanks to a dynamic platform, as well as a system of virtual and mixed reality.

What makes this simulator model so special is the realism of all parameters: the width and length of road sections within the multifunctional zone, the area and size of all the objects within the MFZ (a single service building, parking lots for different types of vehicles, gas station complexes, etc.), the features of the movement of the selected vehicle on the territory of the MFZ and others. With the help of the new simulator, it is possible to assess all the parameters of a multifunctional road service zone, including convenience and safety for both drivers and passengers.
