Young cartoon-makers created 3D storyboards during a master class at the National Centre RUSSIA
Young guests of the National Centre RUSSIA created their first storyboards for cartoons at a master class on June 18. The lesson was conducted by students of the ION School of Design of the Russian Presidential Academy of National Economy and Public Administration (RANEPA). In the art class of the exposition "The Birth of Scale", the children were told how to correctly lay out scenes from famous animated films and to convert the images into a three-dimensional cardboard model.
"We have studied what set design is. It is used in films — it is a three-dimensional analysis of the image according to the layouts. We do the same thing using paintings by famous Russian artists. For example, Surikov's “Winter in Moscow”— we are analyzing which plan the trees are drawn on, what is in the foreground, what is in the second, what is in the third," said student Sofya Karpova.
After studying the theory, the class attendees began to practice — they put individual elements to cardboards, cut them out, and then made out of them a three-dimensional model, according to the rules of set desing. There are some specific tricks in this work, said Sofya Karpova. For instance, when you make small details out of cardboard or lay out a road in the frame that goes far into the distance. The master class was interesting to very young participants, as well as for regular visitors of the classes at the National Centre RUSSIA.
"We have already held master classes at the National Centre RUSSIA, and we recognize some of the participants. But there are also completely new guests — we have children from eight to 15 years old in our class," added the teacher of the master class.
One of the youngest participants of the meeting was eight-year-old Maria, who said that she loves to make things.
"I really like to make crafts out of paper and cardboard, I love to draw. This is the first time I've come to a master class, and I'll come again! I really liked it, I'm glad that my mom signed me up and brought me here," Maria said.
Master classes at the National Centre RUSSIA are held as a part of the educational program of the architectural exposition "The Birth of Scale". The exposition presents realized architectural projects, as well as ideas remaining at the conceptual level. The exposition consists of both the National Centre's own materials and exhibits provided by museums and private collections from all over the country.
You can learn more about Russian architecture from a series of educational lectures by the National Centre RUSSIA with art critic Elizaveta Likhacheva.
