Costumes of the peoples of Russia: an unusual journey across the country
At the National Centre RUSSIA, the exposition called
"Costumes of the Peoples of Russia as a Journey Across the Country"
has opened as part of the "Geography Lessons" exposition. This marks
the beginning of a major project that will gradually be expanded with
traditional costume ensembles from different regions. The first stage is the
"Peoples of the Perm Territory" collection, located in the hall near
the Department Store and open to all visitors.
For every nation, traditional festive costume is far more than
simply ceremonial clothing. It is a complex expression of ideas about the
structure of the world, beauty and harmony, shaped through centuries of
spiritual and cultural experience and embodied in every detail. A single
silhouette, embroidery pattern, choice of colours and decorations all reflect
perceptions of family, community and humanity's place in the world.
The costumes of the peoples of the Perm Territory, presented
by the Perm House of Folk Art, are reconstructions of traditional clothing and
individual costume elements of the peoples of the Kama region. The exposition
features Udmurt, Komi-Permyak, Russian, Mari, Tatar and Bashkir women's and
men's costumes. Visitors can see shirts and dresses, sarafans, caftans, aprons,
belts, headdresses and chest ornaments.
The reconstructions are based on authentic museum exhibits
from the Perm Territory, as well as personal expedition records made by staff
of the Perm House of Folk Art. The pieces in the collection were created with
minimal stylisation and remain as close as possible to historical originals.
The exposition offers visitors an opportunity to see how diverse traditional
culture can be, while at the same time remaining united by shared meanings and
values.
Another academic year has come to an end at the Young Tour Guides School of Russia.
The National Centre RUSSIA has completed the acceptance of applications for the II Video Essay Contest "Dreams of the Future".
