"Athletics is experiencing a rebirth": Dmitry Guberniev especially for the National Centre RUSSIA
The athletics in Russia is receiving a new impetus today, and athletes are ready to come back to the world stage and show high results at any moment. Such an opinion Dmitry Guberniev, honored journalist of the Russian Federation, TV host and sports commentator, shared with the press service of the National Centre RUSSIA following the results of the Russian Athletics Championship in Kazan.
The Russian Athletics Championships was hosted by Kazan on 7-10 August 2025. The event brought together more than 700 athletes from 70 regions of the country. During four days of the competition, the athletes competed for medals in 42 Olympic disciplines, setting two national records and many personal achievements. The Central Stadium, which previously hosted the Universiade 2013 and the 2024 BRICS Games, became the point of attraction for sportspeople.
At the tournament, 44 sets of awards were given out in such disciplines as running, long jump, race walking, discus throw, javelin throw, shot put, and others.
"Unfortunately, we do not have the opportunity to travel to the World Championships. But the efforts of new leaders of the All-Russian Athletics Federation, the authorities of Tatarstan, the Match TV channel, which broadcast the championship in Kazan, lead to the fact that athletics is now receiving a new impetus in the country. Incredibly motivated athletes are ready to come back at any moment and show results to match the international level. And the level of competition is absolutely high. Now athletics, despite the suspension, is experiencing its rebirth," Dmitry Guberniev shared his opinion.
Speaking about the championship itself, the honored journalist of Russia pointed out the good results of the athletes, the excellent atmosphere, the high level of organization, and attention to detail at the competition.
"Interest in athletics has increased in the country. I think this is a great victory for us all," the commentator added.
During the competition, Fedor Ivanov broke the Russian national record in the 400 metres hurdles, showing a result of 47.94 seconds. Vladimir Nikitin has beaten another national record. He covered the distance of 10,000 meters in 27.48.30 minutes. The athlete managed to beat the record that had been held since 2008.
Yaroslav Tkalich and Yulia Karavaeva won the 100-meter race. Sofia Palkina showed the best result in the hammer throw, and Danil Lysenko was the leader in the high jump. The winners in the 200 and 400 meters, as well as in the 4×100 and 4×400 meters relay races were representatives of Moscow, St. Petersburg, the Krasnodar Region, and other regions of Russia.
Polina Knoroz achieved a new personal record in the pole vault, winning the gold medal with a result of 4.86 meters. This result was the second in both the global and European seasons. The athlete's previous highest achievement (4.83 meters) was recorded in July at the Cup of the Strongest in Brest.
