Lecture "Industrial Russia" will take place on April 11 at the National Centre RUSSIA
The fourth event in the series of seven architecture lectures at the National Centre RUSSIA will be the lecture titled "Industrial Russia." It will take place on April 11, starting at 18:00.
The meeting will be moderated by art historian and architecture historian Yelizaveta Likhacheva. The speaker will be architect Stepan Lipgart, who will present his personal perspective on industrial legacy.
Experts will discuss how utilitarian form became the expressive language of its time, how industrial objects became part of the cultural code of our country, what remains unnoticed in Russian landscape architecture of the 20th century, and why metal and concrete are considered symbols of the era and progress. Attendees will learn the history of Russia’s industrial structures and explore the chronicle of large-scale transformations.
Participation in the event is free of charge, but registration is required on the website of the National Centre RUSSIA at russia.ru in the "Events" section. The number of seats is limited.
The exposition "The Birth of Scale" at the National Centre RUSSIA presents completed architectural projects as well as ideas that remained only as concepts. The exposition includes exhibits from the National Centre RUSSIA, as well as from museums and private collectors. The exposition is open to all visitors free of charge.
Partners of the exposition "The Birth of Scale" include DOM.RF, the Ministry of Construction of Russia, Gazprom, the A.V. Shchusev State Research Museum of Architecture, the Russian State Archive of Literature and Art, the Yakov Chernikhov Architectural Charity Foundation, and the HSE University School of Design.
The competition to design the building for the People's Commissariat of Heavy Industry was announced in 1934.
A model of the only surviving wooden tent-roof church in Siberia is on display at the "The Birth of Scale."
