Leo Bokeria spoke about the achievements of Russian medicine at the "Inventing the Future" Symposium
On November 5, as part of the International Symposium "Inventing the Future" at the National Centre RUSSIA grounds, a series of interviews with prominent politicians, scholars, cultural figures, and doctors continued.
Leo Bokeria, President of the Federal State Budgetary Institution "National Medical Research Centre for Cardiovascular Surgery named after A.N. Bakulev" of the Ministry of Health of Russia, discussed his journey in medicine, the development of the cardiovascular centre, and its accomplishments. The interviewer is a member of the Council for Culture and the Arts under the President of the Russian Federation, Rector of the Ilya Repin St. Petersburg State Academy of Fine Arts, Semyon Mikhailovsky.
"Now we can diagnose any condition and treat any disease if a person seeks medical help in time. With the three-dimensional diagnostic method, we see more than in the operating wound. Today, the level of medical assistance is incredibly high," noted Leo Bokeria.
He emphasized that their clinic performs a record number of open-heart surgeries, including the most complex cases, and they successfully operate on even the youngest patients.
"Today, we have the largest clinic in the world in terms of open-heart surgeries, and our youngest patient was just two days old. I don’t have a concept of a difficult operation — it becomes difficult only after complications arise. We encounter incredibly complex patients, but we know this even before the operation based on heart defect, on the patient's weight," added Leo Bokeria.
The International Symposium "Inventing the Future" is being held from November 4 to 6. Participants include scientists, researchers, futurists, science fiction writers, and representatives from government bodies from 101 countries, including Russia, India, Italy, Iran, China, the UAE, Serbia, the USA, and France. The program features over 60 sessions across four tracks: "Future of Human," "Future of Technology," "Future of Multipolar World," and "Future of Civilizations."
