The final trials of the country's first All-Russian "Rural Postman" contest took place at the National Centre RUSSIA as part of the All-Russian Forum of Rural Workers.

The goal of the competition is to promote the popularisation of the postman profession and support this important activity in small towns with a permanent population of up to 50,000 people, as well as in rural settlements of the Russian Federation.

Vladimir Yakushev, Secretary of the General Council of the United Russia party and First Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, addressed the competition participants with a video greeting.

"The contest is dedicated to people without whom it is impossible to imagine the countryside. For fellow villagers, a postman is a friend, a helper, a link with relatives and loved ones. United Russia supports the work of rural postal services. On the instructions of President Vladimir Putin, offices are being updated throughout the country, they are becoming modern and convenient," said Vladimir Yakushev.

He emphasised that the "Rural Postman" competition has become an expression of respect for this profession. More than three thousand people participated in it.

"The work of a postman is the most difficult labour, it does not depend on weather, season, or climate. A postman is always close to those who need help at the moment in rural areas. We believe that through such competitions we not only say thank you and identify the best in the profession, but also show our entire huge country and residents of large cities and agglomerations the work of these modest and caring people," noted Alexander Dvoynykh, Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on Agrarian-Food Policy and Environmental Management, coordinator of the party project "Russian Village."

He pointed out that within the framework of the party project, close attention is paid to what is happening in the countryside. Thus, the comprehensive rural development programme is indexed annually, and in recent years its measures have affected more than 14 million citizens. Alexander Dvoynykh added that one cannot stop at what has been achieved. According to him, the priority task remains the repair of all post offices in rural areas.

Based on the results of regional stages, an expert jury selected 86 finalists. Public online voting also took place on the VKontakte social network.
