A small triangle, immense gratitude: the National Centre RUSSIA continues the #LetterToAHero campaign
Writing a few lines, folding a sheet of paper into a
triangle, and placing the letter into a transparent capsule has become a
personal way for thousands of guests of the National Centre RUSSIA to thank the
defenders of the Fatherland. On 21 February, the third stage of the volunteer
centre’s #LetterToAHero campaign begins, through which anyone can send warm
words of support to servicemen taking part in the special military operation.
The #LetterToAHero campaign was launched by the volunteer
centre of the National Centre RUSSIA together with the documentary film
festival "RT.Doc: Time of Our Heroes" in 2025, on Defender of the
Fatherland Day. Over several months, guests and staff of the National Centre
RUSSIA, participants in festival discussions, and concert audiences wrote and
sent more than 4,500 letters to the front line. In autumn, to mark National
Unity Day, the second stage of the initiative began, during which almost
another thousand messages were collected.
People of different ages and professions wrote simple but
deeply personal lines to unfamiliar soldiers — about pride in their country,
about waiting at home, praying, and believing in their return.
The third stage of the campaign will run until 31 May 2026.
Over three months, visitors to the National Centre RUSSIA will be able to write
a triangular letter on a special form and send it to the front line. The
campaign space is located on the second floor of the National Centre RUSSIA.
Volunteers will help guests phrase their messages, fold them into the
traditional front-line triangle, and place them into the transparent capsule.
Each letter of the #LetterToAHero campaign is a personal
story and a small gesture of solidarity. Some authors address a "dear
defender", while others write as if speaking to a brother, son, or friend.
For some, it is important simply to say "we remember you", while
others share family stories and memories of front-line letters from past
generations. The triangular shape has become the symbol of the campaign and a
link between the heroes of the past and the present.
The folded triangular messages are collected in a special
capsule installed at the campaign area. Through war correspondents and
documentary filmmakers, the letters are delivered to military units on the
front line, becoming a reminder to servicemen of the support and gratitude of
their fellow citizens.
The launch of the third stage of the volunteer centre’s
#LetterToAHero campaign takes place as part of the opening of the 4th
International Documentary Film Festival "RT.Doc: Time of Our Heroes".
Leading tours for the country’s top officials and representing Russia for foreign delegations is not only a great honour, but also a major responsibility.
Documentary cinema reflects facts and truth, and it is important to distinguish it from the distortion of information.
An evening of the Literary Club "What to Read?!" dedicated to Defender of the Fatherland Day was held at the National Centre RUSSIA.
