The "Ancient Letters of the Great City" masterclass was held at the RUSSIA EXPO
As part of the International RUSSIA EXPO, the Our Culture pavilion hosted an educational event "Ancient Letters of the Great City" from the Russian State Children's Library, dedicated to the birch bark letters of Ancient Rus'.
At the meeting the children not only learned about the manuscripts themselves, but also about Veliky Novgorod - the city where most of the birch bark letters known today were discovered during archeological expeditions. Everyone could see for themselves that it is not so easy to read what is written in the letters. At the end of the class the participants created their own messages on birch bark with the help of wooden sticks and took them as a souvenir.
Anastasia Makarova, Deputy Head of the Department of Creative Development of Readers of the Russian State Children's Library, held an educational masterclass for the guests of the forum.
During the all-Russian survey "What does the Motherland begin with?", people across the country are answering this question in their own way, opening up the innermost corners of their souls.
Souvenir nevalyashkas (traditional Russian roly-poly dolls), are attracting particular attention, with guests choosing them for their harmonious combination of Russian colour and traditional Chinese symbols.
Under the guidance of artisans, each guest made an unusual souvenir that can become either a personal talisman or a gift with a special story.
